Use Package names to add apps to Hexnode app inventory for Linux
While there are different ways to add apps to the Hexnode app inventory, adding an app using its package name is one of the most effortless methods.
Package name (or Bundle ID) is the unique identifier used to identify a software application. This document discusses how administrators can add applications for Linux devices to the Hexnode app inventory using their package names. The admins familiar with the package name for an app can specify it along with a custom category, description, and app name to add it. This makes the app available in the app inventory for further deployment.
Add apps using package name
To add apps to Linux devices, you must first add them to the app inventory in Hexnode UEM using the package name. Here’s how it’s done.
- Login to your Hexnode UEM portal and navigate to the Apps tab.
- Click on +Add Apps.
- Choose the option With Bundle ID from the drop-down list.
- Choose Linux and enter the following details:
- App Name – Provide a suitable name for the app.
- Description – Provide a description for the app.
- Package name – Enter the package name for the app.
- Category – Select the category to which the app belongs to.
- Click on Add button to complete the action. You have now successfully added the app to the inventory.
Now, you may add the apps to the target devices using Install Application action or Required Apps policy.
Method 1: Using Install Application action.
- Navigate to Manage tab.
- Select a device to install the app.
- Click on Actions and select Install Application.
- From the ‘Browse and Install Apps’ window, choose the app which was added to the app inventory.
- Click Done.
Method 2: Using Required Apps policy.
- Go to the Policies tab.
- Select an existing policy or create a new one by clicking New Policy.
- Go to Android > App Management > Required Apps. Click Configure.
- Click on +Add and select Add App. Select the app, which was added earlier. Click on Done.
- Go to Policy Targets tab. Click on +Add Devices. Select the devices to which policy is to be associated. Click Save.
