How to remotely scan applications on devices using Hexnode UEM?
Administrators often need to add, remove, or update applications on managed devices to align with organizational requirements. However, manually inspecting applications on each device can be a hassle, especially when managing a large fleet of devices. The Scan for Apps action in Hexnode UEM simplifies this process by allowing IT administrators to remotely scan devices for all installed applications from a centralized console. Unlike the Scan Device action, which performs a full device scan, this action specifically checks for applications present on the device. Once the action is successfully executed, the device is classified as compliant or non-compliant based on the information obtained during the scan.
Scan for Apps
To initiate a scan for apps on a device,
- Login to your Hexnode UEM console.
- Navigate to Manage > Devices.
- Click on a device.
- From Actions, select Scan for Apps.
- To check whether the scan is successful, navigate to the Action History subtab.
- Upon successful scan, go to the Applications sub-tab on the device details page of the corresponding device to view the fetched information of the apps, including their bundle size, identifier, version, and other details.
To scan devices in bulk,
- Login to your Hexnode UEM console.
- Navigate to Manage > Devices.
- Select the required devices and click on Scan for Apps action from Actions.
This will scan the applications on each device and update their Applications sub-tab with the corresponding list of applications.
If a required app is absent or a blocklisted app is present on the device, it will be marked as non-compliant after the Scan for Apps action is executed. The missing required app is automatically reinstalled after the scan, and the device’s compliance is restored.
