How to configure Unitech devices with OEMConfig

OEMConfig is a new Android standard that allows device manufacturers (OEMs) to create custom enterprise features for their devices. Unitech OEMConfig (com.unitech.oemconfig) is the OEMConfig application developed by Unitech. It allows enterprises to configure and manage Unitech devices with its native management features. Hexnode provides a handy and intuitive interface where administrators can easily view and set up these Unitech-specific configurable items for devices.

Notes:


Works on Unitech devices running Android (6.0+) enrolled in the Android Enterprise program.

Configure Unitech devices with Unitech OEMConfig

Before configuring Unitech devices, make sure to:

  • Enroll your organization in the Android Enterprise program.
  • Enroll your devices in Android Enterprise (Device Owner or Profile Owner).

Configuring devices with the Unitech OEMConfig app is a two-step process:

  1. Approve and Add Unitech OEMConfig to the Hexnode inventory
  2. Configure Unitech-specific settings

Approve and Add Unitech OEMConfig to the Hexnode inventory

To add the Unitech OEMConfig app to the Hexnode inventory,

  1. Go to Apps > + Add Apps > Managed Google Apps.
  2. Search the Unitech OEMConfig app and select it.
  3. Click Approve. This action will take you to the Approval Settings page, where you can select the method by which you would like to handle new app permission requests.
  4. Navigate to the Notifications tab, where you can provide your email addresses to get notified when the OEMConfig app requests new app permissions. Click Add.
  5. Click Done to add the app to the app inventory.
  6. Next, distribute these approved apps to the target devices.

Configure Unitech-specific settings

To configure Unitech-specific settings on devices,

  1. Head on to Policies.
  2. Create a new policy with the New Policy button or continue with an existing policy. Provide a suitable name and description (optional) for the policy.
  3. Go to Android > App Management > App Configurations > Configure.
  4. Click the +Add new configuration button.
  5. Select the Unitech OEMConfig app from the list. Configure the following settings available on the OEMConfig app:
    Clock Settings
    Settings Description
    Clock Action Specify whether to configure the clock’s settings, including the date, time, and time zone.
    Time Mode Set the time mode as either Auto (network-provided time) or Manual.
    Manual Date If the ‘Time Mode’ is set to ‘Manual’, enter the date in the format dd/MM/yyyy.
    Manual Time If the ‘Time Mode’ is set to ‘Manual’, enter the time in the format HH:mm.
    Time Zone Mode Set the time zone as either Auto (network-provided time zone) or Manual.
    Manual Time Zone If Time Zone Mode is set to Manual, enter the time zone that must be an Olson ID, like America/Chicago, Canada/Central, and so on.
    Time Format Set the time either to 12 or 24-hour format.

    Display Settings
    Settings Description
    Display Action Specify whether to configure the display settings that include the screen’s brightness, font size, rotation settings, and more.
    Display Timeout Set the amount of idle time before the device is locked automatically. You can choose from the following values:
    • Never
    • 15 seconds
    • 30 seconds
    • 1 minute
    • 2 minutes
    • 5 minutes
    • 10 minutes
    • 30 minutes
    Stay Awake Enable this option to keep your device’s screen awake all the time.
    Display Font Size Set the size of the characters that are displayed on the screen. The available sizes include:
    • Default
    • Small
    • Large
    • Largest
    Back Light Level Set the screen backlight brightness between 0 and 255.
    Auto Brightness Enable this option to turn on automatic brightness mode.
    Auto Rotate Enable this option to automatically rotate your screen when you move your device between portrait and landscape.

    NFC Settings
    Settings Description
    NFC Action Specify whether to configure NFC settings.
    NFC Adapter Enable this option to turn on NFC Adapter.

    FOTA Settings
    Settings Description
    Fota Action Specify whether to configure Firmware Over-The-Air (FOTA) settings.
    Fota OS Update File Path Enter the OS update file path (e.g., *.zip).

    General Settings
    Settings Description
    General UI Action Specify whether to configure general settings on your Unitech devices.
    System Language Enter the language tags such as zh-TW, en-US, en-CN, etc., to be added as the system language.
    IME Current Keyboard Enter the package name of the input method editor (IME) app.

    Keymap Settings
    Settings Description
    Keymap Action Select the option required to configure the keymap settings. The available options include:
    • None
    • Enable mappings
    • Disable mappings
    • Reset mappings
    • Import mappings
    • Export mappings
    Folder Path Enter the path of the keymap folder.
    Programmable Keys Specify the below programmable key settings:
    • Key Name
    • Key Code
    • Wake Up
    • Broadcast Key Down Action
    • Keymap Broadcast Down Extras
    • Broadcast Key Up Action
    • Keymap Broadcast Up Extras
    • Keymap Start Activity Extras
    Add Group Click the button if more than one key is to be programmed.

    Power Settings
    Settings Description
    Power Action Specify whether to configure the power settings. The available options include:
    • None
    • Reboot
    • Reset

    Wireless General Settings
    Settings Description
    Wireless General Action Specify whether to configure wireless settings on the devices.
    Location Mode Enable this option to turn on location services on the devices.

    WLAN Settings
    Settings Description
    WLAN Action Choose whether to set or remove WLAN profiles. The available configurations include:
    • None
    • Set Profile
    • Remove Profile
    • Remove All Profiles
    SSID Enter the name of the network.
    Password Enter the password to connect to the network.
    Security Mode Select the encryption type to use when connecting to the network. The available modes include:
    • None
    • WEP
    • WPA
    IP Assignment Select the IP assignment as either Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) or Static IP address.
    Static IP Address If ‘IP Assignment’ is set to ‘Static’, enter the Static IP address.
    Static IP Mode – Prefix Length Enter the initial bits of the address (prefix) for the destination IP.
    Static IP Mode – Gateway Specify the IP address of the default gateway for the provided static IP address.
    Static IP Mode – DNS Server 1 Enter the IP address of your DNS server.
    Static IP Mode – DNS Server 2 Enter the IP address of your additional DNS server.
    Proxy Mode Select the proxy mode as None, PAC, or Static.
    Proxy – PAC Mode – PAC file URL If ‘Proxy Mode’ is set to ‘PAC’, enter the PAC file URL.
    Proxy – Static Mode – Host URL If ‘Proxy Mode’ is set to ‘Static’, enter the host URL of the proxy server.
    Proxy – Static Mode – Port If ‘Proxy Mode’ is set to ‘Static’, enter the port number of the proxy server.
    Proxy – Static Mode – Excusive List Specify the excusive list if the ‘Proxy Mode’ is set to ‘Static’.

    WLAN Advanced Settings
    Settings Description
    wlanadvanced Action WLAN Advanced can improve the roaming behavior of devices when they’re in areas of low coverage. Choose the required option from the below settings:
    • None
    • Import
    • Export
    • NewSetting
    wlanadvanced Settings Folder Path Specify the path of the WLAN Advanced settings folder. The path is of the form “/sdcard/wlanadvanced/”
    Power Save Mode (0 or 1)(0:Disable, 1:Enable) Enter the value “1” to enable the power save mode. It sets the Wi-Fi module to its optimum power consumption setting. If you need to disable it, type in “0”.
    Roaming Trigger (-10 dBm ~ -120 dBm) (input 10 mean -10) Enter the roaming trigger value in dBm. If the signal strength is lower than this specified value, the roaming trigger will scan for stronger and better access points.
    Roaming Delta (0 dB ~ 30 dB) Enter the roaming delta value in dBm based on which the device will roam to a better signal strength access point.
    Roaming Scan Period (0 ms ~ 60000 ms) Enter the roaming scan period based on which the device will continue with the existing access point before it roams to a different access point.

    Scanner Settings
    Settings Description
    Scanner Action Specify whether to configure scanner settings. The available options include:
    • None
    • Import
    • Export
    Scanner Settings Folder Path Specify the path of the scanner settings folder. e.g. /sdcard/scanner/

    Device Management Capabilities
    Settings Description
    Device Capability Enabled Use this option to enable or disable device capability.
    Device Capability Item Use this feature to enable/disable various device capabilities such as:
    • Camera
    • GPS
    • Touch Scanner
    • Bluetooth
    • Keyboard
    • USB
    • WLAN
    • WWAN
    • Flash
    • Ime
    Add group Click the button if more than one feature is to be enabled/disabled.

    ELauncher Settings
    Settings Description
    ELauncher Action ELauncher is a software to install and run specified programs on device startup. You can select one of the below options:
    • None
    • Enable ELauncher
    • Disable ELauncher
    Set Kiosk App Enter the package name of an app to be set as the kiosk app.
    Launcher App List Enter the package name of the apps to be shown on the launcher list. Separate multiple apps with commas (,).
    Launcher Wallpaper Specify the path of the wallpaper on the device to be set as the launcher wallpaper.
    ELauncher PIN Code Enter the PIN code for the ELauncher software.
    ELauncher Kiosk Mode Enable this option to turn on kiosk mode.

    MoboLink Settings
    Settings Description
    MoboLink Action Specify whether to configure MoboLink agent settings. MoboLink is an agent app that can be used to manage Unitech devices.
    MoboLink Server URL Enter the URL of the MoboLink server.
    Autorun on Bootup Enable or disable autorun on bootup.
    Rebootstrap on Bootup Enable or disable rebootstrap on bootup.
    Silent Mode Enable or disable silent mode.
    Show Connection Notifications Enable this option to display connection notifications.
    Show Event Notifications Enable this option to display event notifications.
    Lock Settings Enable or disable lock settings.

    Unitech Scanner Utility Settings
    Settings Description
    Enable/Disable scanner trigger key Specify whether to enable or disable the trigger keys.
    Enable/Disable data ack/nak Specify whether to enable or disable the data characters used to ‘acknowledge’ or ‘not acknowledge’ the receipt of the data without error.
    Enable/Disable auto connect Specify whether to enable or disable auto-connect.
    UPC-A Specify whether to enable or disable the UPC-A barcode.
    UPC-E Specify whether to enable or disable the UPC-E barcode.
    UPC-E1 Specify whether to enable or disable the UPC-E1 barcode.
    EAN-8/JAN-8 Specify whether to enable or disable the EAN-8/JAN-8 barcode.
    EAN-13/JAN-13 Specify whether to enable or disable the EAN-13/JAN-13 barcode.
    Bookland EAN Specify whether to enable or disable the Bookland EAN (any EAN that begins with the 978 prefix) barcode.
    Bookland ISBN Format Select one of the following formats for Bookland data:
    • Bookland ISBN-10
    • Bookland ISBN-13
    ISSN EAN Specify whether to enable or disable ISSN EAN.
    Decode UPC/EAN/JAN Supplementals Select one of the below options to decode UPC/EAN/JAN Supplementals:

    • Autodiscriminate UPC/EAN/JAN Supplementals
    • Enable 378/379 Supplemental Mode

    Transmit UPC-A Check Digit Enable or disable this option to transmit the symbol with or without the UPC-A check digit.
    Transmit UPC-E Check Digit Enable or disable this option to transmit the symbol with or without the UPC-E check digit.
    Transmit UPC-E1 Check Digit Enable or disable this option to transmit the symbol with or without the UPC-E1 check digit.
    UPC-A Preamble Select one of the following options required to transmit UPC-A preamble to the host device:
    • No Preamble ([DATA])
    • System Character ([SYSTEM CHARACTER] [DATA])
    • System Character + Country Code ([COUNTRY CODE] [SYSTEM CHARACTER] [DATA])
    UPC-E Preamble Select one of the following options required to transmit UPC-E preamble to the host device:
    • No Preamble ([DATA])
    • System Character ([SYSTEM CHARACTER] [DATA])
    • System Character + Country Code ([COUNTRY CODE] [SYSTEM CHARACTER] [DATA])
    UPC-E1 Preamble Select one of the following options required to transmit UPC-E1 preamble to the host device:
    • No Preamble ([DATA])
    • System Character ([SYSTEM CHARACTER] [DATA])
    • System Character + Country Code ([COUNTRY CODE] [SYSTEM CHARACTER] [DATA])
    Convert UPC-E to UPC-A Select ‘Enable’ to convert UPC-E decoded data to UPC-A format before transmission. Else, choose ‘Disable’ to transmit UPC-E decoded data as UPC-E data without conversion.
    Convert UPC-E1 to UPC-A Select ‘Enable’ to convert UPC-E1 decoded data to UPC-A format before transmission. Else, choose ‘Disable’ to transmit UPC-E1 decoded data as UPC-E1 data without conversion.
    Code 128 Choose whether to enable or disable the Code 128 symbology.
    Code 128 Length Parameter 1 Set the Code 128 length 1 from 0 to 55.
    Code 128 Length Parameter 2 Set the Code 128 length 2 from 0 to 55.
    GS1-128 Enable or disable GS1-128 symbology.
    ISBT 128 Enable or disable ISBT 128, a variant of Code 128.
    Code 39 Enable or disable Code 39 symbology.
    Trioptic Code 39 Enable or disable Trioptic Code 39, a variant of Code 39.
    Convert Code 39 to Code 32 Enable or disable converting Code 39 to Code 32. Note that Code 39 must be enabled for this setting to function.
    Code 32 Prefix Enable or disable adding the prefix character “A” to all Code 32 bar codes.
    Code 39 Length Parameter 1 Set the Code 39 length 1 from 0 to 55.
    Code 39 Length Parameter 2 Set the Code 39 length 2 from 0 to 55.
    Code 39 Check Digit Verification Enabling this option will check the integrity of all Code 39 symbols. Thus, you can ensure data compliance with the specified check digit algorithm.
    Transmit Code 39 Check Digit Enabling this option will transmit the Code 39 check digit with the data.
    Code 39 Full ASCII Conversion Enable this option to allow Code 39 – Full ASCII symbology.
    Code 93 Enable or disable the Code 93 symbology.
    Code 93 Length Parameter 1 Enter the Code 93 length 1 from 0 to 55.
    Code 93 Length Parameter 2 Set the Code 93 length 2 from 0 to 55.
    Code 11 Enable or disable the Code 11 symbology.
    Code 11 Length Parameter 1 Enter the Code 11 length 1 from 0 to 55.
    Code 11 Length Parameter 2 Set the Code 11 length 2 from 0 to 55.
    Code 11 Check Digit Verification Specify the option required to check the integrity of all Code 11 symbols. Thus, you can ensure data compliance with the specified check digit algorithm. The available options are:
    • Disable
    • One Check Digit
    • Two Check Digits
    Transmit Code 11 Check Digit Enable this option to transmit the Code 11 check digit(s). This feature works only if ‘Code 11 Check Digit Verification’ is enabled.
    Interleaved 2 of 5 Enable or disable Interleaved 2 of 5.
    Interleaved 2 of 5 Length Parameter 1 Set the Interleaved 2 of 5 length 1 from 0 to 55.
    Interleaved 2 of 5 Length Parameter 2 Set the Interleaved 2 of 5 length 2 from 0 to 55.
    Interleaved 2 of 5 Check Digit Verification Select the algorithm to check the integrity of an Interleaved 2 of 5 symbol. You can select one of the below options:
    • Disable
    • USS Check Digit
    • OPCC Check Digits
    Transmit Interleaved 2 of 5 Check Digit Enable this option to transmit the Interleaved check digits with the data.
    Convert I 2 of 5 to EAN-13 Selecting the ‘Enable’ option will convert I 2 of 5 codes to EAN-13 and transmit to the host as EAN-13.
    Discrete 2 of 5 Enable or disable Discrete 2 of 5.
    Discrete 2 of 5 Length Parameter 1 Set the Discrete 2 of 5 length 1 from 0 to 55.
    Discrete 2 of 5 Length Parameter 2 Set the Discrete 2 of 5 length 2 from 0 to 55.
    Codabar Enable or disable Codabar barcodes.
    Codabar Length Parameter 1 Set the readable length 1 of Codabar from 1-55.

    CLSI Editing Enable this setting to strip the start and stop characters and insert a space after the 1st, 5th, and 10th characters of a Codabar symbol.
    NOTIS Editing Allow this option to strip the start/stop characters from a decoded Codabar symbol.
    MSI Enable or disable MSI barcode symbology.
    MSI Length Parameter 1 Set the MSI length 1 from 0 to 55.
    MSI Length Parameter 2 Set the MSI length 2 from 0 to 55.
    MSI Check Digit Verify the integrity of the data by selecting one from the below options:
    • One MSI Check Digit
    • Two MSI Check Digits
    Transmit MSI Check Digit Enable this option to transmit the check digits with the data.
    MSI Check Digit Algorithm If ‘MSI Check Digit’ is set to ‘Two MSI Check Digits,’ select the algorithm required to check the integrity of the data as additional verification. You can choose either MOD11/MOD10 or MOD10/MOD10 algorithm.
    Chinese 2 of 5 Enable this option to allow Chinese 2 of 5 symbology.
    Matrix 2 of 5 Enable this option to allow Matrix 2 of 5 symbology.
    Matrix 2 of 5 Length Parameter 1 Set the Matrix 2 of 5 length 1 from 0 to 55.
    Matrix 2 of 5 Length Parameter 2 Set the Matrix 2 of 5 length 2 from 0 to 55.

    Japan Postal Enable or disable Japan Postal.
    Australia Postal Enable or disable Australia Postal.
    Netherlands KIX Code Enable or disable Netherlands KIX Code.
    USPS 4CB/One Code/Intelligent Mail Enable or disable USPS 4CB/One Code/Intelligent Mail.
    UPU FICS Postal Enable or disable UPU FICS Postal.
    GS1 DataBar Enable this option to allow GS1 DataBar symbology.
    GS1 DataBar Limited Enable this option to allow GS1 DataBar Limited.
    GS1 DataBar Expanded Enable this option to allow GS1 DataBar Expanded.
    Convert GS1 DataBar to UPC/EAN Select ‘Enable’ to strip the leading ‘010’ from DataBar symbols and convert the barcode to EAN-13.
    Composite CC-C Enable this option to allow GS1 DataBar composite CC-C.
    Composite CC-A/B Enable this option to allow GS1 DataBar composite CC-A/B.
    Composite TLC-39 Enable or disable Composite barcodes of type TLC-39.
    UPC Composite Mode Choose whether to link UPC symbols with a 2D symbol during transmission.
    • UPC Never Linked: Transmit UPC barcodes without linking a 2D symbol even if it’s present.
    • UPC Always Linked: Transmit UPC barcodes only by linking the 2D portion. If it is not present, the bar code will not be transmitted.
    • Autodiscriminate UPC Composites: The engine checks the presence of a 2D symbol, then transmits the UPC, along with the 2D symbol if present.
    PDF417 Enable this option to allow PDF 417 barcode format.
    MicroPDF417 Enable this option to allow Micro PDF symbology.
    Code 128 Emulation Enable this option to allow Code 128 symbology.
    Data Matrix Enable this option to allow Data Matrix.
    Data Matrix Inverse Select the setting to decode Data Matrix:
    • Regular: Decodes regular Data Matrix barcodes only.
    • Inverse Only: Decodes inverse Data Matrix barcodes only.
    • Inverse Autodetect: Decodes both regular and inverse Data Matrix barcodes.
    Maxicode Enable or disable Maxicode.
    QR Code Enable or disable QR Code.
    MicroQR Enable this option to allow Micro QR barcode.
    Aztec Enable this option to allow Aztec barcodes (2-D matrix symbology).
    Aztec Inverse Select the option needed to decode Aztec. The available options include:
    • Regular: Decodes regular Aztec barcodes only.
    • Inverse Only: Decodes inverse Aztec barcodes only.
    • Inverse Autodetect: Decodes both regular and inverse Aztec barcodes.
    Han Xin Enable this option to allow Han Xin code.
    Han Xin Inverse Select a Han Xin inverse decoder setting:
    • Regular: Decodes Han Xin barcodes with normal reflectance only.
    • Inverse Only: Decodes Han Xin barcodes with inverse reflectance only.
    • Inverse Autodetect: Decodes both regular and inverse Han Xin barcodes.
    Trigger Modes Select a trigger mode from the below options:
    • Level
    • Presentation Mode
    • Host
    • Auto Aim
    • Auto Aim with Illumination
    Picklist Mode Select the picklist mode required to decode a barcode from multiple barcodes printed close together:
    • Disabled Always
    • Enabled Always
    Transmit Code ID Character A Code ID Character determines the code type of a scanned barcode. The available options include:
    • Symbol Code ID Character
    • AIM Code ID Character
    • None
    Decode Session Timeout Enter the maximum time decode processing during a scan attempt from 5 to 99 (0.5 to 9.9 seconds).
    Low Light Motion Detection Assist Select the mode to detect motion in dim to dark light environments:
    • Disable: Both Aiming Dot and Dim Illumination are turned off.
    • Enable Aiming Dot: Dim Illumination is off, but the Aiming Dot is on to assist in scene detection.
    • Enable Dim Illumination: The Aiming dot is off, but Dim Illumination is on to assist in scene detection.
    BT Signal Checking Level Set up Bluetooth configuration from the below settings:
    • Normal Level
    • Higher Level
    Scanned data format Select the required scan data transmission format as:
    • Raw(without code type)
    • SSI(with code type)
    Data Terminator Set up terminator as:
    • None/Null
    • CR
    • LF
    • CRLF
    • TAB
    Unitech Scanner Utility Item Use this feature to set up various Unitech Scanner Utility items such as:
    • None
    • Export settings

    RFID2Key Settings
    Settings Description
    RFID2Key Action Select the RDIF2Key action as:
    • None
    • Export settings
    • Import settings
    • Reset settings

    Configuration File Path Specify the path of the configuration file.
    Password Code Enter the password code.
    RFID to Key (mode) Enable or disable RFID to Key (mode).

    Software Update Settings
    Settings Description
    Software Update Action Select the software update action as:

    Configuration File Path Specify the path of the configuration file.
    Set Operation Mode Set the mode of operation as:

    Set Update Policy – Installed Apps Specify whether installed apps are to be updated. The available values are:
    • All
    • None
    • Selected
    Set Update Policy – Installed Apps List Enter the name of the apps that you wish to update. Separate multiple apps with commas (,).
    Set Update Policy – New Apps Set the update policy for new apps as either Install or None.
    Set Passcode Enter a passcode.
    Set Server URL Specify the server URL.

    StageGO Settings
    Settings Description
    StageGO Action Specify whether to configure StageGO settings. StageGo is a software used to set up multiple devices with a single configuration.
    Report Path Specify the report path.
    Max Number of Report Enter the maximum number of allowed reports.
    Enable/Disable Bootup Script Specify whether to enable/disable scripts on bootup.
    Bootup Scripts File Path If bootup scripts are enabled, specify the path of scripts. Split multiple scripts using commas (,).
    Setting Menu Passcode Enter a passcode to be set as the Setting Menu passcode.
    Scan Mode Set the scan mode as either CameraMode or ScannerMode.

  6. Click Done after configuring the required settings.
  7. Next, associate the policy with the target devices by navigating to the Policy Targets tab.
  8. Select the required Devices/Device Groups/Users/User Groups/Domains and click Save.

The OEM specific-settings explained in this document are based on the configurations set by the respective OEM vendors, which may vary frequently. Since Hexnode is not solely responsible for setting up these configurations, you may find slight variations in the settings displayed on the portal from this document.
