How to map users in Apple School Manager to Hexnode?

Apple School Manager (ASM) is a simple IT tool that streamlines digital education by providing a streamlined way for deploying modern devices used in education. With a UEM integration, institutions can foster a supervised environment suited for education.

On integrating Apple School Manager with Hexnode, all the classes and the members configured in the ASM portal will get populated in Hexnode. If the users were already created in Hexnode, you could map the existing users to the ASM users to eliminate duplication. On mapping, the Managed Apple IDs imported from ASM will be synced with the corresponding user in Hexnode.

Also, during the mapping, you can add profile images for the users so that this image will be displayed on the login screen of the shared iPads and on the classroom app.

To ensures a customized end-user experience for the students and teachers, you can add profile images for the users in Hexnode. These user images will be displayed on the login screen of the shared iPads and on the classroom app, delivering a familiar environment. These user images can be directly added to the Hexnode user profile or can be attached during the user mapping.

Map ASM users to Hexnode users

To map individual Apple School Manager users imported from ASM to Hexnode users,

1. Login to your Hexnode console and navigate to Manage > Users.
2. Select the required ASM user and click on Actions.
3. Click on Map Apple School Users.
4. Select Search for Hexnode User from the Map Hexnode User drop-down.
5. You can also add a user image by providing the URL of the distribution point where the image is hosted.
6. Click on Done.

This will map the existing Hexnode user with the Managed Apple ID user imported from ASM.

Add or edit the user image

User images can be attached to a Hexnode user profile either directly or during mapping the ASM users to Hexnode users.

To add or edit a user image directly from the Hexnode user profile,

1. Login to your Hexnode console and navigate to Manage > Users.
2. Search for the required user and click on the username. This will take you to the user profile.
3. Just below the username and the email address, you will have an option to Add or change user image.
4. To add the user image, enter the URL of the distribution point with an enabled web service where the image is hosted.
5. Click on Save.

You can also add the user image while mapping the ASM user with the Hexnode user as specified under Map ASM users to Hexnode users.

This user image will be displayed on the iPad login screen and on the classroom app.
