Hi. When you wipe an Android device but then want to associate a new policy with it, do you have to disenroll it first?

Hey, Thanks for reaching out to us.

When a device is wiped, it will no longer be managed by Hexnode except the devices with Hexnode MDM as the system app. You will have to re-enroll the devices before attaching a new policy with it.
After the wipe is performed, the device might still be listed in the device list in the Manage tab. Click on the device and you will be directed to the device summary page. Click on the ‘Actions’ button and choose the ‘Mark as Disenrolled’ option to remove this entry from the device list. Else, this might create multiple entries when the device is re-enrolled.
So, after the device is disenrolled and the entry has been removed from the device list in the Manage tab, the device can be re-enrolled and new policy can be associated.

Hope this helps!

Cheers!

On re-enrolling the device will it be treated as a new device or will the old configurations done take effect?

Hey, Thanks for reaching out to us.

You can choose whether a device is to be considered as a new device or old configurations are to be retained on re-enrollment:

  • Navigate to Admin->  Enrollment-> Re-enrollment Options.
  • Select Enroll as a new device to add the device to Hexnode without any old configurations taking effect on it. On selecting Retain configurations and change owner, all the configurations that have been previously set on the device will be retained and the device ownership will now be changed to the user to whom the device is assigned.
  • Click Save.

Please check out our help doc on enrollment for more info.

Cheers!
