Hey @skylar-a!
Windows Admin Center is a web-based management tool for IT admins to manage Windows Server and Windows operating systems. It modernizes traditional tools like Server Manager and Microsoft Management Console (MMC) into a more integrated, simplified, and secure experience. Essentially, it’s a remote management tool that works for Windows Servers running anywhere – on-premises, in Azure, or in a hosted environment. You can manage your servers without extra configuration.
Got it! How does Windows Admin Center ensure security then?
Basically, the connection between your browser and the Windows Admin Center gateway is secured via HTTPS. Communication between the gateway and managed servers uses standard PowerShell and Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) over WinRM. It also supports security features like LAPS (Local Administrator Password Solution), resource-based constrained delegation, Active Directory or Microsoft Entra ID-based access control, and role-based access control for managing target servers. These measures help keep your environment secure.
That makes sense! Are there any specific Windows versions or web browsers that support Windows Admin Center?
Hi @roosevelt!
Windows Admin Center is officially supported on Windows 10 (version 1709 or later), Windows 11, and various Windows Server versions including Windows Server 2022, Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2012 R2, and Windows Server 2012. It works with the latest versions of Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and Microsoft Edge Insider. Other modern browsers and platforms are not supported right now.
