Various IssuesSolved

Hi,

I have been using Hexnode for about 6 weeks now and finding some parts very well put together but feel other parts are lacking in devolpment.

I have listed below a list of issues and wondered if you can shed some light as to if they are going to be implimented or not.

Password policy does not remove from PC when policy is not longer associated.

Currently requires location services to be on – Doesn’t allow you to activate it through hexnode or script.

Can’t uninstall programs using hexnode. Will however do half the job and install it.

Needs to have a holding area. If users leave and you are synced with gsuite it will disenroll the device. A holding area for the devices would be good.

I have found that if you add some machines ( Mac OS) to a policy, if that policy has the same app installed it breaks it. This happened with dropbox and it stopped syncing users documents.

Can’t update Windows OS.

Can’t disable file vault if devices have it already activated. Thus if you are a new hexnode customer this will cause problems.

Hello @adam-hall , welcome to Hexnode Community!

We appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us. Let’s go through each of the issues you faced.

  • Password policy – The issue with the password policy not being removed from the PC has been recently resolved. Do give it a try and let us know.
  • Location services – You can activate location services on macOS and Windows devices via script from the Hexnode portal. For instance, you can execute the following script to enable location services on macOS versions Big Sur and Monterey:

sudo -u "_locationd" defaults -currentHost write "/var/db/locationd/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.locationd" LocationServicesEnabled -int 1

  • Uninstall applications – Uninstalling applications is supported on iOS, Android and Windows devices. All you have to do is navigate to the Manage tab, select your device, click on Actions > Uninstall Application and select the applications to be uninstalled.
  • Holding area for devices – When a user leaves, the device does not get disenrolled. Instead, the device will still be listed in the portal, notifying that the user associated with it has been removed.

  • Issue with policy association with devices – That seems like unusual behavior. Apps already present in the device will not be affected by any associated policy. The issue could be with the app. Can you please confirm if the app works fine when installed manually?
  • Windows OS update – Please have a look at our document, script to download and install updates on Windows devices. You can execute the script from the Hexnode UEM portal to update your Windows OS hassle-free.
  • FileVault – Apple’s FileVault payload does not support disabling FileVault via MDM. So even if the policy has been removed, the user will have to manually disable FileVault from the device.
  • Hope this helps. Please feel free to get back to us in case of any further queries.
