Trouble pushing apps to iPads – Cannot install app. Please sign in to your iTunes account.Solved

I’ve been trying to push apps to 3 iPads (iPad 8th gen) which we got for test. The action ends up in error that says “Cannot install app. Please sign in to your iTunes account.” We are using ABM to supervise these devices and got the apps through VPP. Which iTunes account should we sign in? Does it mean we should log in to the device using an apple id/managed apple id? Or is there some configuration we missed out from our side.

Hi @Kourtney, you wouldn’t need to sign in to iTunes again on the device if the app was deployed through Apple VPP. Your error could be occurring due to a VPP account sync issue.

Apps deployed through VPP can be assigned to a device or a user. When you assign an app to a user, the app is linked with the Apple ID of the user. The app will be automatically added on the device the user is signed in from and likewise deleted when the user is signed out. Whereas when you assign an app to a device, the app is retained on the device irrespective of the user unless specifically uninstalled/revoked. While deploying Apple VPP app through Hexnode, the app is assigned to the device and the user need not be logged in to an iCloud account to access the app. The app is deployed under the ABM account and so, the reason you see this error could be because your VPP account was not properly synced with Hexnode.

To sync your VPP account, go to Admin > Apple Business/School Manager > Apple VPP, find the sync button for your account (scroll horizontally on the account list) and click to Sync.

Once the sync is successful, try syncing your device with the portal. If the error persists, revoke the app license for the device and try deploying the app again.

Exception: For the device running on iOS 7.0 till 9.0, you need to first invite users to the VPP program. The user must have a personal iTunes account under the email address and the same must be signed in on the device you are planning to deploy the app to.

For devices running iOS 9.0 and above, Hexnode can push the app to the device even if an iTunes account is not present.

Do let us know if your issue was fixed.
