Revert to an earlier version of an app – AndroidSolved

Hey there,

We’ve installed an internal app on our Android devices across the organization using the Required Apps policy, but it turns out the version we pushed has some security issues. We don’t want to delete the app, as that would result in data loss. Is there a way to revert or downgrade the app to an older version without losing the app data?

Hello @jimena,

Thank you for reaching out!

Yes, it is possible to revert or downgrade the app without losing any data. However, this can only be done on Samsung Knox devices running Android 7 or below and requires enabling the Enforce app downgrade option when configuring the Required Apps policy. If these conditions are met, you’ll be able to downgrade the app to a previous version.

We’re using Samsung Knox devices, mostly running Android 7. We’ve enabled the Enforce app downgrade option while deploying the app via the Required Apps policy as well.

Hello @jimena,

Since you’re using Samsung Knox devices and have enabled the Enforce app downgrade option, here’s how you can downgrade the app:

  1. Log in to your Hexnode UEM portal.
  2. Navigate to the Apps tab.
  3. Search for the enterprise app you want to downgrade.
  4. Click on the app to open the details.
  5. In the app details box, click the gear icon.
  6. From the drop-down menu, select Edit.
  7. Click Change next to the APK/XAPK File.
  8. Upload the older version of the app.
  9. Click Save.

Once these steps are completed, the app will automatically downgrade on the devices without any user intervention, and the downgrade will occur without clearing the app data.

Let me know if you need any further assistance!
