Restrict users from changing wallpaperSolved

Hello people

We have a new Mac at our reception bay for monitoring CCTV footage and tracking employee in-and-out flow. To maintain a professional appearance, we configured an attractive wallpaper using Hexnode. However, there is an option called “Show as wallpaper” under Screen Saver settings that allows users to modify the wallpaper.

We looked around but couldn’t find any specific option in Hexnode to disable this setting. Is there any way to prevent users from changing the wallpaper? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello @gnish

Thank you for reaching out to Hexnode. I understand your problem with restricting users from modifying the wallpaper.

Apple introduced the “Show as wallpaper” option in macOS Sonoma (14), and currently, does not provide an option to manage this setting.

As a workaround, you can use the following script to disable Screen Saver settings under System Settings.

Please handle the script carefully, as it will affect System Settings. If you do not prefer to disable the Screen Saver pane overall, you can try the following method as another workaround.

While configuring the Wallpaper policy in Hexnode, make sure to set the time for the “Change picture” option to the least. This setting will refresh the wallpaper based on the configured time, overriding the “Show as wallpaper” setting and displaying the wallpaper configured through the Wallpaper policy.

Hope this helps. Feel free to contact us if you need any further clarification.

Regards,
George
