Re-enrolling a Mac without wiping itSolved

Hi,

What is the best way to re-enroll a Mac without wiping it? The device was enrolled via Automated Device Enrollment (ADE). We started experiencing issues with SSO, so I attempted to repair the registration. The MDM profile is missing from the device, but it remains listed in Apple Business Manager (ABM).

What would be the best approach to re-enroll the Mac without performing a device wipe?

It’s always recommended to wipe and re-enroll the device for a clean setup. Alternative methods may work, but they could lead to issues down the line.

Hey @cullen! You can re-enroll your Mac without wiping it by using Terminal commands – it worked for me. Make sure the device is assigned to the MDM server in Apple Business Manager (ABM) or Apple School Manager (ASM), then follow these steps:

  1. Open the Terminal app on your Mac.
  2. Run one of the following commands based on your macOS version:
    1. For macOS 10.13.5 and later:

      Or,

    2. For macOS 10.13.4 and earlier:
  3. Enter the password for the logged-in local account when prompted.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the re-enrollment process.

This method allows you to re-enroll the Mac into MDM without performing a device wipe.
