Hey y’all,

I recently ran into a problem where I can’t see the Messages app when trying to share a note. Checked the settings, and there ain’t no options for Messages when I search for it. Anyone know how to fix this?

Hey @boris

Looks like the Messages app might have been disabled from the Share menu. You can try the steps below based on your device’s OS version to bring it back:

  • Open System Settings/Preferences.
  • For macOS Sequoia, go to General > Extensions > Sharing. Click the info button next to Messages and enable it.
  • For macOS Ventura and Sonoma, go to Privacy & Security > Extensions > Sharing and check Messages to enable it.
  • For macOS Monterey and earlier, go to System Preferences > Extensions > Share Menu and check Messages to enable it.

Hope this helps, man!

Hey @eduardo,

Appreciate it, man. My Mac’s running Sequoia, and I’m seeing that option greyed out. I reckon we can’t disable or enable it since messages are added by default that might be why it’s greyed out. {Click here}.

At first, I figured it’s because my Mac’s enrolled in Hexnode, but I checked another Mac (not enrolled in any MDM) running macOS Monterey, and the messages option’s still greyed out. So, I don’t think it’s got anything to do with device management. Any idea what else could be causing this?

Hey @boris

I’ve seen this before and I don’t think it’s got anything to do with the share menu extension settings. If the note’s in iCloud the Messages option will show up in the share menu. But if it’s saved with another provider like Google the Messages option won’t be there. That’s because Apple only allows sharing and collaboration through Mail or Messages when both users have their notes in iCloud and some features get limited if iCloud isn’t signed in on both devices.

I hope it helped. Catch you later.
