Hey, Thanks for reaching out to us.

Hexnode MDM enables administrators to fetch the device locations at specific time intervals that can be configured through policies. This time interval can range from 15 minutes to 24 hours. The minimum update interval that can be chosen is 15 minutes.
To set the time interval, please navigate to Policies-> General Settings-> Location Tracking and click Configure. Enable the ‘Enable location tracking’ option and click on the drop-down list next to the ‘Location Update Interval’ option and choose the time interval.

Kindly use the help link to know more about configuring Location Tracking with Hexnode.

Cheers!

Hey, Thanks for reaching out to us.

To track the location of the devices, you will have to successfully associate location tracking policy with them:

  • Navigate to Policies-> General Settings-> Location Tracking. Click Configure.
  • Select Enable Location Tracking and set the Location Update Interval.
  • Associate targets and save the policy.

The possible reasons for the failure of location tracking are:

  • The device might not be connected to a network.
  • Location services might have been disabled on the device.
  • The location tracking policy might not have been successfully associated with the device.

Please check out the help doc on reasons for location tracking failure for more info.

Cheers!

Hey, Thanks for reaching out to us.

Hexnode enables you to enforce location services on Samsung Knox, LG GATE and Kyocera business phones:

  • Navigate to Policies-> Android-> Restrictions-> Allow Developer Options.
  • Enable GPS (allows the user to turn the GPS on/off) and Force GPS to fetch location (enforce Location Services and prevent users from turning it OFF).
  • Associate targets and save the policy.

Please check out our help doc on enforcing location services for more info.

Cheers!

Apart from the location update interval, can I know the location of my user device at a specific time that I want to?

Hi Gregory,

Thanks for reaching out to us!

Yes, you would be able to fetch the location of the device anytime you want.

Navigate to Manage > Devices > Select the required devices > Actions > Scan device location.

Make sure that the following pre-requisites are met:

  • The location tracking policy is applied to the devices. To apply the location tracking policy, navigate to Policies -> General Settings -> Location tracking -> Enable location tracking.
  • Location services are enabled for the device.
  • Hexnode MDM app is installed on the devices.
  • Location permission is given for the Hexnode MDM app.

In the case of iOS devices, for iOS version 13 and above, the Hexnode MDM app needs to run in the foreground for the scan device location action to be a success. For the lower version of iOS devices, the Hexnode MDM app can run in the background to fetch the device location.

For Android devices, in the case of Samsung Knox, LG Gate, and Kyocera devices, it is possible to force the location from the Hexnode portal. Navigate to Policies -> Android -> Restrictions -> Allow location settings -> Enable ‘Force GPS to fetch location’

Please click here to know more about the location tracking for the devices.
