Log out users from the devicesSolved

We have a large number of Windows devices in the college for all the students. However, students often walk away from the device without logging out, either by just locking it or waiting for others to switch to their accounts. In both cases, their accounts remain logged in. When executing scripts meant for currently logged-in users, they end up applying to user accounts that haven’t logged out. This causes a lot of confusion for us and also may even lead to some issues with other accounts. Are there any scripts or another feature that can be deployed to ensure users are logged out?

Need to do it as a bulk action since there are lot of devices.

Hey @elena,

Thank you for reaching out. Currently, Hexnode does not offer a feature that directly meets your requirement. In the meantime, you can use the following script to log out users from their devices.

To execute this script in bulk. Follow the below steps,

  1. Login to your Hexnode UEM portal.
  2. Navigate to Manage tab. Select the Windows PC’s or tablets to which the script is to be deployed.
  3. Choose the platform as Windows. Choose the script source as Upload file or Hexnode repository.
  4. Click on Execute.

For more details, please refer to our help documentation on executing scripts on Windows devices .

I hope this helps. Feel free to contact us if you need any further clarification.

Happy testing,

In our case, we need to apply this action for specific users. Before proceeding, we need to check if the user is still logged in on the device. Is there a way to verify the user’s login status and log out the user account from the device. This would help ensure that we don’t interfere with active sessions or create any disruptions.

Hello @desmond ,
No problem. You can check the login status of the user from the Hexnode portal under Local Accounts in the Device Summary page. To log the user out, simply follow the steps below:

  1. Login to your Hexnode UEM portal.
  2. Navigate to Manage > Devices.
  3. Select the Windows device whose user account(s) you want to force log out.
  4. Click the Local Accounts tab.
  5. Click the Power button icon corresponding to the user that you want to force log out.
  6. Click Proceed in the confirmation dialog box.
  7. Click Confirm to force log out the user.

For more details, please refer to our help documentation on managing user accounts for Windows devices.

Feel free to reach out to us, we’re happy to help.

Cheers,
