Hi, this might seem like a silly question. When an app is pushed to a Windows device, where is this located?

Hello @arthur, welcome to Hexnode Connect!

The location of the app depends on the type of app pushed via Hexnode UEM:

  • Store apps: Located in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps.
  • Enterprise apps (32-bit): Located in C:\Program Files (x86).
  • Enterprise apps (64-bit): Located in C:\Program Files.

Please note that this is a general scenario and may vary based on your device model or OS version.

Thank you. But is there any way to change the location of the app where it is to be installed?

Hello @arthur. Yes, it’s possible to configure the installation location for enterprise apps while uploading them to the Hexnode app inventory.

Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Log in to your Hexnode portal.
  2. Navigate to Apps.
  3. Select +Add Apps > Enterprise App.
  4. Choose the platform as Windows.
  5. Provide the App Name.
  6. You can either upload with MSI file, MSIX package, EXE file or from Manifest URL. The install location can be specified when uploading via an MSI file or Manifest URL.
  7. Input the URL to the app, if manifest URL is selected.
  8. Select an app category from the dropdown or click on + button to create a new category.
  9. Add the required description in the Description field.
  10. Provide the SHA-256 checksum of the file to verify the file integrity before distribution, if manifest URL is selected.
  11. Choose and upload the MSI file/MSIX package/EXE file.
  12. Specify the installation path in the Install location field. (only available for MSI file or Manifest URL).
    • Note that the installation location of an app depends on the MSI build, unless you specify a different path for installation.
    • Some applications have specific installation locations, so providing a different installation path will have no effect.
    • If an app was previously installed on the device and then uninstalled, it will reinstall in its original location, even if you provide a different installation path.
