FileVault error saying "This recovery key might not be valid because the current recovery key is not retrievable"Solved

I’m seeing a persistent warning message on macOS devices: “This recovery key might not be valid because the current recovery key is not retrievable”. Users can still use the recovery key shown in the device info, so it’s valid, but the error keeps appearing. How can we get rid of this message?

Did you try using the method included in Hexnode’s troubleshooting docs? “How to fix issues with enabling FileVault on Mac”. Also, can you execute this command: sudo fdesetup changerecovery –personal? Let me know if this works for you in any way.

No, man, none of the cases mentioned in the troubleshooting guide apply to our situation. I think this issue is not from the Hexnode side. As for the command, it temporarily prevented the error prompt, but the issue came back after a while. I’ve noticed others reporting the same problem in the Apple Community.

I’m facing the same issue. We use a different MDM solution, and initially, I thought the problem was with my MDM. However, after researching, I found that this issue only affects devices updated to macOS 14.4 or 14.4.1. It seems like Apple needs to address this on their end.

I updated my macOS devices to the latest version, and the issue appears to be resolved. The error prompts have stopped, and everything is working as expected. I suggest updating your devices to the latest macOS version to see if it fixes the issue.
