Hey, quick question: I’m planning to use a dual SIM phone for work and personal numbers. Should I go for one physical SIM and one eSIM, or just stick to two physical SIMs?

Good scenario, @desmond. If your phone supports an eSIM, I’d say go for one eSIM and one physical SIM. It frees up the physical SIM slot if you ever need to swap it temporarily, like when traveling.

I agree with @edmund. Plus, managing your plans becomes easier with an eSIM. You can activate or switch plans digitally without removing or inserting a card. Super convenient!

True, but remember, not all carriers support eSIMs yet. Depending on your region or carrier, you might still need two physical SIMs for now.

That’s a good point, @luke. Are there any downsides to using an eSIM for work and a physical SIM for personal use?

Not really, but if your phone gets damaged or lost, recovering your eSIM can be a bit of a hassle. You’d need to contact the carrier to re-activate it on a new phone. Physical SIMs are easier to transfer.

That’s why I recommend keeping your personal number as the physical SIM. You’re less likely to need quick changes for that, but your work number might need more flexibility, which an eSIM provides.

And don’t forget, dual physical SIMs might drain your battery a bit faster than an eSIM setup, depending on your phone’s hardware. It’s not a huge difference, but worth considering.

That’s interesting! So, for flexibility and better battery usage, eSIM for work and a physical SIM for personal sounds like the way to go. Thanks for clearing that up, everyone!

Definitely! Oh, and if your work number is on an eSIM and managed by a solution like Hexnode, IT admins can even update or activate your eSIM plan remotely. That’s a handy feature when you’re using managed devices.

Good point, @edmund. Hexnode also lets you retain eSIM configurations during a device wipe. If your phone needs to be reset, your eSIM data plans are preserved—super useful for iOS devices!
