Hi, I am planning to use Hexnode for managing our employees’ Apple devices at work. This includes macs, iPhones and iPads. As mentioned in the title, I want to know whether I should get an Apple business manager account to work with Hexnode and manage the devices. Could someone provide guidance on what would work best in my case?

Hey @raelynn , welcome to Hexnode Community. To clarify your doubt, no, it’s not compulsory that you need to have an Apple Business Manager (ABM) account to manage the Apple devices at your workplace through Hexnode. However, for utilizing the full capabilities of Hexnode UEM it is recommended for you to have one, as the integration of ABM+UEM can increase the remote device management features manifold. By enrolling your organization in ABM, you can enforce enhanced restrictions in Apple devices that require them to be supervised.

What other advantages are there on integrating the Hexnode portal in ABM?

Integrating your Hexnode UEM portal with ABM provides you many benefits:

  • Deploy new iOS, macOS, and tvOS devices in bulk by automatically applying configurations on the initial device start-up making it ready for use right out of the box.
  • Allows you to purchase and distribute apps and books in bulk into devices using Apple’s Volume Purchase Program (VPP).
  • Enables you to supervise devices over-the-air, unlocking advanced restrictions, configurations, and management actions for enhanced control.

Check out our help documentation to know how you can enroll your organization in ABM.

After enrolling you can proceed to integrate Hexnode with your Apple Business Manager account by creating a DEP account. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Log in to your Hexnode UEM portal.
  2. Go to the Enroll > All Enrollments > No-Touch > Apple Business / School Manager.
  3. Create a DEP Account and download the certificate file.
  4. Here a DEP token is required which is to be downloaded from the ABM page. For this follow the steps below:
    • Login to Apple Business Manager page with your ABM credentials.
    • Click on your profile name in the sidebar. Then click on Preferences.
    • Click on the Add MDM Server button and name the server.
    • Upload the public key obtained from the MDM console while setting up the DEP and click Save.
    • Click on Download Token.
    • Go back to the Hexnode portal and upload the server token.
  5. Click on Next and Finish.

You can refer to our help to read more on enrolling Apple devices through DEP.
