Different version got installed automaticallySolved

Hey there,

We recently pushed some enterprise apps to our managed windows devices using the required apps policy. The app was in Msi format, and it installed successfully without any issues. But now, when we checked, it seems like a different version is installed. This isn’t the version we originally pushed, and we haven’t deployed any updates from our side. This is happening only with this particular app.

You used an Msi app, right? Msi apps allow you to add multiple versions and choose which one to install. Did you recently add a new version to the Hexnode app inventory? If your required apps policy is set to install the latest version, that could explain the update.

How is that related? Yes, we added a different version of the app to the inventory, but we never pushed it to the device in any way. When we initially deployed the app, this version hadn’t even been added yet.

I see the confusion here. When you selected Latest version, at that time, the version you deployed was the latest. But with the required apps policy, hexnode periodically checks if the configured app is installed on the device. If it finds a different version, it reinstalls the app. So, when you added a new version to the inventory, that became the latest version. When the policy checked the device, it detected a mismatch and installed the updated version.

Ah, I see. So the latest version option means that every time a new version is added, the system automatically considers it the latest?

Exactly! If you want to install a specific version, you can manually select it from the list of uploaded versions when adding the app to the policy.

Okay, but what if I add an older version later? Would that also become the latest version?

No, that’s not how it works. Even if you upload an older version later, it won’t be marked as the latest version. The system always determines the latest version based on the version number. So, as long as you upload a newer version, the policy will automatically deploy it, and you won’t need to update the policy manually.

Got it! I misunderstood earlier. Thanks for the explanation.
