Blocking the Google AppSolved

Hey,

We need to block all browsers except the designated one. But what about the google app? It’s a system app, right? Can we block it?

Also, if it gets blocked, what happens to the google search widget on the home screen? Will it be removed or still functional? If it stays and users can still search, that kind of defeats the purpose of blocking the app.

You’re using hexnode, right? I manage this easily with their Blocklisting/allowlisting policy.

As for your second question, I’m not entirely sure, but that’s an interesting point—I’d love to know the answer too.

Hey @otis, what device are you using? It depends on the phone. For example, on Samsung devices, the search widget disappears along with the google app when it’s blocklisted.

Oh, I see. We use pixel phones. Does it work the same way there?

No, on pixel devices, even though the google app gets hidden/blocked, the search widget still remains. But if you try to use it, you’ll get a message saying something like “App isn’t installed.”
