Hi,
We installed some store apps on our employee devices using the install application action. One of the apps recently received an update that contained bugs. The auto update option in play store was disabled but few employees manually updated the app from the play store, now the app crashes when opened. Can we block manual updating of store apps to prevent such issues in the future?

Hi @stijn,
Thanks for reaching out to us.
Could you please mention the device model and type of enrollment method you have followed?
Thanks.

Enrollment: Android enterprise device owner
Hi @stijn,
Thanks for your reply!
Yes, you can prevent employees from manually updating the apps on Google Play Store using Hexnode. Here is what you need to do.
- Go to Policies > Android > Advanced Restrictions > Allow App Settings on the Hexnode portal.
- Uncheck the ‘Install apps’ option.
- Assign the policy to your employee’s devices.
It also prevents auto updating of Play Store apps, even if auto-updates are enabled on the devices. Since this restriction is supported on Samsung Knox, Android Enterprise Device Owner, and Android Enterprise Profile Owner, you can easily use it on your devices to manage auto-updates.
Please note that you won’t be able to push Play Store apps to the devices from the Hexnode portal after associating the policy. However, you can update the Play Store apps pushed from the portal by following the steps below.
- Head to the Apps tab, and select the app you need to update.
- Tap on the Settings icon, and click on Check for updates to update the app.
Hope this helps. Do reach out if you have any further queries.

Can I install enterprise apps from hexnode if the above policy is applied to the devices.
Hi @stijn,
Yes, the enterprise apps remain unaffected if the ‘Install Application’ restriction is associated with the devices. Hence, you can push enterprise apps from the Hexnode portal even if the policy is associated with the devices.
Cheers!
