Hey community, I have been planning to create a framework that employees and admins can follow while returning their corporate devices to ensure a smooth transition. So, if anyone could drop in some words of wisdom regarding the return of corporate devices it would be of great help.

@bram , if the employees’ devices are enrolled in an MDM, you need to wipe the device so that the information of the previous user is cleared from the device. Any configurations, security policies, installed applications, and their app-related data will be removed from the device. But before wiping you should ensure that any important organization-related data is backed-up so that it is not lost on wiping the device. You can also disenroll the device from the portal if it no longer has to be managed.

I concur with what @skylar-a  has said above. In addition, I would also suggest placing importance on the physical recovery of devices to assess their condition and functionality and ensure that they have not been compromised in any manner that may affect the devices’ users in the feature. I always cross-check and verify the device information like its model, serial number, and device ID against the asset inventory for its identification so that I know that the correct device is being returned to the organization.

@bram keep in mind to notify users in advance regarding the return of their devices to give them ample time to manage their resources in the devices. Employees should be advised to clear their browser history, backup their documents for future use, delete their personal applications and files containing any personal information, save usernames and passwords used for applications or accounts for personal use, and empty their recycle bin/trash before they return their devices. The employees must also ensure that they have signed out of their accounts that were in operation on the device.
