Backup and recovery of contacts on COPE Android devicesSolved

Hi there, our primary challenge is that each time a COPE device is enrolled, a new work account is generated (like work2562302e7279d@…). Users can’t log into their current account on a browser to export data. This makes it difficult to recover new Google contacts if the device is lost, wiped, or replaced. Can we import our contacts to the work profile, as there are many contacts related to work?

Can we somehow have a way to import our contacts to the work mail before enrolling the Android devices as COPE? Else, can we do it after enrollment? Can anyone suggest how to proceed with this?

Hello guys,

Thanks for reaching out. The contacts can be imported and transferred, but the method explained below requires user interaction.
Sign in to the contacts app in the work profile with your google account where all contacts are saved and export the contacts file. From the files, you can import the contacts to the work account. This way, you can transfer all your previous contacts without losing them.

Follow the below steps,

  1. Open the Contacts app in your work profile and sign in with your google account.
  2. Click on Export to file and select which contacts you want to export, then save the file.
  3. Open the Files app and navigate to the folder where you have saved the contacts file.
  4. Click on the contacts file, and when prompted for confirmation on where to save the imported contacts, select the work account where you want to save all the contacts.
  5. This way, you can transfer all your previous contacts without losing them.

I hope this helps. Feel free to contact us in case of any further queries.

Regards,
John Cooper
