Allowlist error in macSolved

Hey everyone! Has anyone had trouble getting certain apps to work even after adding them to the allowlist? I’m trying to run GitHub Desktop on my Mac, and it’s added to my allowlist, but no luck! It seems like apps that don’t need a full install (just unzip and use) aren’t being recognized properly. Any tips?

I’ve run into this too! I allowlisted another app, but since it doesn’t go through the usual installation process, it doesn’t seem to be recognized. Maybe there’s a trick to get it working?

Hello everyone,

Thank you for bringing up this issue! Let’s clarify why allowlisting certain apps, such as those running directly from extracted ZIP files like GitHub Desktop for macOS, may not work as intended. This issue arises because these apps are stored in locations other than the Applications folder on the device, preventing Hexnode from identifying them.

To ensure these apps are identified and allowlist restrictions are enforced, follow these steps:

  1. Move the app to the Applications folder: Locate the extracted app in Finder, then drag and drop it into the Applications folder.
  2. Initiate a device scan: After relocating the app, use the Scan Device action in the Hexnode portal to update the list of apps detected on the device.
  3. Reapply the allowlist policy: Reassociate the allowlist policy to ensure the app is properly included under the applied restrictions.

Feel free to reach out if you need additional help.

Best regards,
