Hey all!

How can I add files to the home screen in Android kiosk mode? I’m setting up a device in Kiosk Mode and need to add specific files (like PDFs) to the home screen. Any tips on how to do this while keeping the device locked down?

Hey! @Otis  Thanks for posting on Hexnode Connect.

Yes, you can definitely add files like PDFs or video files (MK4, and MKV) to the home screen of the device when it locked down in kiosk mode. First, make sure the file is already present on the target device. For detailed instructions on how to create shortcuts for PDF files or video files kindly refer to our help documentations. Once that’s done, just head to Policies > Kiosk Lockdown, then go to Android Kiosk Lockdown > Single App > Configure. From there, hover over the + icon and click on Select File Shortcut, then choose the PDF file you want to add. Once the device is locked down, the file will show up on the home screen. Give it a shot and let us know if you run into any issues!

What if the files you want to add aren’t already on the portal?

Hello @Casper  If the files have not been added, you will see the following error on the portal ‘No shortcuts added! Go to Content > Kiosk File Shortcuts > Documents/Media > Add a File to create shortcuts.’ This message indicates that you need to upload the file to the Hexnode UEM console before placing it on the home screen.
