Hi everyone.

I’m configuring Android devices in Kiosk Mode and need to grant access to specific web URLs. I’m considering using Managed Bookmarks in Chrome for this. Does anyone have suggestions on how to set this up?

Hi @harold, welcome to Hexnode Connect!

To set up Managed Bookmarks in Chrome on Android devices, follow these steps:

  1. On your Hexnode UEM console, navigate to the Policies tab.
  2. Click on New policy and provide a suitable name and description for the policy.
  3. Go to Android > App Management > App Configurations, click Configure and then click + Add new configuration.
  4. Select Google Chrome from the list of applications.
  5. Configuring app configuration for Google Chrome via Hexnode UEM console.

  6. In the configuration window, choose Managed Bookmarks and enter the URLs using the following format:
  7. To allow access only to the URLs specified in Managed Bookmarks, select Block access to a list of URLs and set it to [“*”]. Then, choose Allow access to a list of URLs from the configuration window, and enter the URLs to be allowlisted.
  8. Click Done to save the configuration.

To enable Google Chrome in kiosk mode,

  1. Navigate to Kiosk Lockdown > Android Kiosk Lockdown > Multi App and click on Configure.
  2. Click on Add App and select Google Chrome.
  3. Click Save, then associate the policy to the target device.

Give it a try and let us know if you need any help!

We do not allow access to Google Chrome in our organization. Is there an alternative way to save bookmarks in kiosk mode while ensuring that only specified URLs can be accessed?

Hey @desmond, welcome to Hexnode Connect!

An alternative to saving bookmarks via Google Chrome is to add the websites as Web Apps in the kiosk lockdown mode.

To set this up, go to the Apps tab, add the required website as a Web App, and select it under Multi App kiosk settings for Android. You can choose to open the web app using Hexnode Browser Lite or Hexnode Kiosk Browser, both of which let you define a list of allowed URLs in kiosk mode. This way, no other URLs will be accessible unless explicitly allowed.
