Disable private browsing on SafariSolved

Hey everyone,

We are managing a fleet of iOS devices in our organization, and we have run into a couple of issues with Safari. We need to disable private browsing mode across all devices to ensure we are tracking browsing activity properly. On top of that, we have noticed users clearing their browsing history, which makes it harder to track.

Has anyone found a good way to handle these with an MDM? Would love to hear any suggestions.

Thanks!

Hi @casper, welcome to Hexnode Connect.

You can use Hexnode’s Web Content Filtering feature on iOS devices to restrict private browsing. When the web content filtering policy is configured, Safari’s Private Browsing mode is automatically disabled, and users will be unable to clear their browsing history or website data.

Here’s how to configure web content filtering,

  1. On your Hexnode UEM console, navigate to the Policies tab.
  2. Create a new policy and provide a suitable policy name and description.
  3. Under iOS, navigate to Security > Web Content Filtering and click on Configure.
  4. Configuring web content filtering policy on iOS devices via Hexnode UEM console.

  5. Choose the filter type – Blocklist or Allowlist based on your requirements and click on Save to save the policy.
  6. Associate the policy to the device.

Hello @amelia-smith, welcome to Hexnode Connect.

The Web Content Filtering policy disables private browsing only in Safari. To disable Incognito Mode in Google Chrome, you can use App Configurations on iOS devices. Navigate to Policies > iOS > App Management > App Configurations and select Google Chrome. Add the following key to the XML configuration:

This will disable Incognito mode in Google Chrome. Let me know if you need any further help!
