Hi community! I want to encrypt the browser activity on corporate devices managed with Hexnode. Is there any way I can configure a VPN for the browser?

Hey @annemie, a browser-based VPN only encrypts browser traffic, while a device-wide VPN and per-app VPN extend beyond browser activity. The browser-based VPN might be limited if the encryption needs to be extended to apps.

Hi @annemie, thank you for reaching out to Hexnode Connect! Thank you for your contributions, @porter . To clarify:

  • Browser-based VPN: Only the traffic routed through the browser is encrypted.
  • Per-app VPN: The traffic for each managed application is individually encrypted, ensuring that only specific apps use the VPN.
  • Device-wide VPN: The traffic routed through the entire managed device is encrypted, ensuring all device traffic is monitored and preventing unnecessary communication.

Although Hexnode does not currently support browser-based VPN, it does allow the configuration of per-app VPN on iOS devices and a device-wide VPN across multiple platforms. Depending on the organization’s need to encrypt either specific applications’ traffic or the entire device’s traffic, you can choose between a per-app VPN and a device-wide VPN.

Feel free to reach out for any more assistance. We are happy to help!

Best regards,
