How to change the Apple ID linked to an Activation lock on an iPadSolved

I’ve found myself in a bit of a pickle here at work. We used to have Android tablets, but we recently bought a bunch of old, used iPads for our employees. They need to constantly check our product designs and manuals while they’re working, so these iPads are perfect for them.

We set up these devices through ABM, but when I was configuring the DEP account in Hexnode, I accidentally used my personal Apple ID instead of my Apple reseller’s one. They were the ones handling the ABM portal, so I guess I made a mistake.

Now, whenever we try to reset any of these devices, it asks for my Apple ID password to bypass the activation lock. Is there any way I can change the Apple ID associated with these device’s activation lock to my Apple reseller’s Apple ID?

I’d really appreciate any help you can give me with this. Thanks a bunch!

Hello mate,

I think you’ll have to re-assign the MDM server in the ABM. Unfortunately, this means you might need to re-enroll all those iPads again. With a shiny new certificate, you can create a new MDM server (this time with the correct Apple ID) and reassign all these devices to the new server. Fun times, right? It seems like the best option we’ve got. Oh, and it involves wiping the devices, of course. I’d definitely recommend tossing this delightful task over to the Apple reseller. Otherwise, you’ll have to manually do it via Apple Configurator, and trust me, that’s a lot to handle.

If anyone’s got any better ideas, I’m all ears.
