Using a single Apple ID for multiple Apple devices.Solved

Hey guys! We’re currently using a different MDM for our device management requirements and have a small roadblock with its app deployment workflow on Apple devices.

Here’s the scenario: We’ve several ipads that needs to be managed and we want to be able to assign a single Apple ID to all of them so that we don’t have to create a different one for each device. Is this possible?

With our current MDM vendor, the app is getting installed only on one of the ipads even though the same apple ID is used on the rest of them. Not sure if this is an Apple limitation or our MDM’s. How does Hexnode deal with this?

If your requirement is to deploy apps to multiple iPads at once, I don’t think using the apple ID on all the ipads is the way to go. We combine Hexnode with Apple’s VPP program to push apps to multiple devices in bulk, and the devices need not be signed in using any Apple ID. The workflow is pretty simple and streamlined.

Have a look here: https://www.hexnode.com/mobile-device-management/help/how-to-install-ios-apps-without-itunes-account/

You’re looking for device licensing in app deployment. Check out this Apple doc:

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/deployment/dep7cef2e0ea/web

With this, you can deploy VPP apps on Apple devices without having to set up an Apple ID on the device. All you’d have to do is purchase an equal number of app licenses as the number of iPads to which you need to deploy the apps. Reach out to your MDM support and enquire whether they support app deployment of this kind, I’m guessing every MDM vendor would.
