Hey guys, so I have a managed iphone and another ipad but thats unmanaged… I wanna make sure if handoff works in this case coz if it does then that might be a problem since sensitive data can be transferred so easily… Does anyone have any idea whats gonna happen in this case?

Same doubt here. If this kind of handoff is possible is there a way to prevent it as well?

Hello folks, thank you for reaching out to us!

@kim To answer your original query, Handoff between managed and unmanaged iOS devices is possible as long as ‘Handoff’ is enabled on both these devices.

@trista Not to worry, we’ve got you covered! Restricting the Handoff functionality on the managed iOS device helps you with it.

To configure this restriction, navigate to Policies tab and create a New policy. Under iOS select Advanced restrictions and Uncheck Handoff. Now simply Save and Associate Targets to the policy.

Now if you try to Handoff apps in your managed iOS device, you’ll see that the message on the bottom of the App switcher shown for Handoff is missing. Therefore, the user cannot pick up where they left off on this device using a different device.

This way you can rest assured that an unmanaged device cannot use Handoff to continue the tasks you had been working on using your managed device.

Please note that restricting Handoff using Hexnode UEM is supported only on supervised iOS devices.

Hope this answer suits your requirements.
Cheers!

Thank you for reaching out @karlijn.

To ensure Handoff between devices, please make sure you meet the following prerequisites:

  • You must be logged with the same Apple ID to iCloud on your devices.
  • Devices have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Handoff turned on.
  • Devices must be connected to the same Wi-Fi.
  • Devices must be within each other’s Bluetooth range.
  • Devices must be running iOS 8.0+, iPadOS 13.0+, macOS 10.10+ or watchOS 1.0+.

Once these requirements are met, Handoff should work without any trouble. Should you need any further assistance, please do not hesitate to reach us!

Cheers!
