It does not seem to be an issue with the Wipe Device action initiated from the Hexnode portal. However, error messages of a similar kind can appear on a Mac when it is restored or erased.
The cause of the error may differ; however, at the time, the message itself might recommend a solution. In your case, you can use macOS Recovery to reinstall macOS.
- Re-check network connectivity. Make sure the device has a stable internet connection.
- Startup from macOS Recovery
- Reinstall macOS.
- Choose Reinstall macOS on the utilities window in macOS recovery.
- Press Continue.
- Next, follow the on-screen instructions.
Once the installation is done, the device restarts to the setup assistant.
