iOS 10 enterprise features

Since iOS 9.3 was released three months before the announcement of iOS 10 and all the major changes for MDM were included in iOS 9.3, iOS 10 comes with minor additions to enterprise management. New and powerful iPhone 7 and 7 plus were also announced by Apple, with 10 new great features, including water and dust proof, A10 Fusion processor and a camera with f/1.8 aperture. About iOS 10, it was released on Tuesday, 13th September 2016. It is packed with a lot of new features. All iOS 10 Enterprise Features are listed below:

Supervised Mode

Last year in the WWDC, Apple said that they are deprecating some restrictions from MDM and make them available only on supervised iOS devices. This year, this is confirmed, and Apple is deprecating the following restrictions from normal MDM:

• App installation and removal,
• FaceTime,
• Siri,
• Safari,
• iTunes,
• Explicit content,
• iCloud documents and data,
• Multiplayer gaming, and
• Adding GameCenter friends.

These changes will not be available on the initial release of iOS 10, but will be available later on the same version of iOS.

CallKit API and VoIP

The new CallKit API in iOS 10 is developed to help third-party data-based call services like in Facebook Messenger, Skype, and WhatsApp. With CallKit API, Apple considers these services as equal as the standard calls, so calls made through this app doesn’t hang up if you receive a call in the Apple’s Phone app, like in previous iOS versions. The default voice app can be set by Enterprise using MDM. This doesn’t affect incoming calls. VoIP calls are also integrated into the lock screen.

Clipboard

Clipboard is made universal. Copy any content and they’ll be stored temporarily on the iCloud apart from being stored on the clipboard. You can paste the content from iCloud in Apple devices such as iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Apps Open to Third-Party Developers

Apple is opening up Siri as well as Maps to third-party developers so that they can bring out new features in these apps. They’re giving the Messages app as well to the developers. By doing so, these apps can be made compatible with enterprise apps. Developers can download SiriKit from Apple, which provides an extension that communicates with Siri even if the app isn’t running.

Integration with Cisco

Apple integrates iOS with Cisco so that the new iOS 10 will have several new features. It is now possible for the enterprise to have full control over apps, and enterprise apps are automatically prioritized over their network. iOS is integrated into Cisco Spark so that the employees can have calls made to their work phone redirected to their personal iPhones via the Cisco Spark app. You can also make enterprise calls from an iPhone.
