Implementing Enterprise Mobility is no small task, however here are a few steps to help you manage the transition smoothly.
1. Know your policies and regulations
Before creating a game plan, you have to make sure you really know your side of the story. Analyze your policies in detail and figure out the ones that need to be addressed in regard to enterprise mobility adoption. If you already have a mobility policy in place, it’s a good idea to review it and make sure your mobility strategy still meets your requirements.
2. Identify the mobility challenges
Enterprise mobility is going to be a minefield of challenges – from handling a torrent of mobile apps, to securing networks and to supporting diverse platforms. If you are able to identify them beforehand, you can stop them from turning into bigger problems, once you start implementing mobility. Make sure you clearly understand what exactly is at stake. Ultimately, it boils down to balancing those priorities.
3. Decide your mobility management approach
Choosing your mobile device management approach is such an integral part of enterprise mobility. Whether you choose to go with a barebone device management suite or a more comprehensive solution with inbuilt app management and content management capabilities has a lot to do with the success of your enterprise mobility implementation. Everything depends on your requirements but then again, there is no harm in being a bit future-proof.
4. Choose your Mobile Device Management solution
Compare Mobile Device Management (MDM) vendors in the market and try out as many products you can. Don’t let yourself end up with solutions inconsistent with your needs because you didn’t spent enough time to form an informed decision. Key step is identifying the right features you need. Once you have established that, choose a solution which meets all of your requirements. If you can’t find the perfect one, keep digging. It’s not worth settling for the closest match.
5. Securely implement Enterprise Mobility with the MDM solution
With the right MDM solution at your disposal, implementing mobility is not that big of a challenge. The Mobile Device Management solution should very well take care of enrolling the user devices, configuring device settings, restricting specific device features, deploying mobile applications, blacklisting malicious apps and even remotely wiping a stolen device. Do not rush things, enterprise mobility should come of as a natural progression rather than a forced change.
6. Actively monitor mobile ecosystem and make changes if necessary
Enterprise mobility management is not a one time thing, it’s a long-drawn-out process running alongside your business and should go in tandem with your initiatives like Bring Your Own Device (BYOD). No device management solution will let you implement mobility and then simply forget all about it. More importantly, you can’t take that chance and leave it all to the software. You can (and need to) monitor the entire fleet of devices in your enterprise through the MDM solution. And if something is not right, do not hesitate to make the required alterations.
